Akron Gasket and Packing Enterprises: Delivering Strategic Inventory Management and Warehousing Capabilities

“Many of our customers operate in industries where downtime is simply not an option. By maintaining inventory and building stocking programs around their operations, we help eliminate uncertainty and keep their production moving.”

Manufacturing environments are becoming increasingly complex, placing greater demands on every component within an assembly—especially sealing and gasketing systems. From aerospace applications and power infrastructure to industrial equipment and heavy manufacturing, precision die cutting and reliable sealing solutions are essential for ensuring operational efficiency, product integrity, and system performance. For more than five decades, Akron Gasket and Packing Enterprises (AGAPE) has built its reputation on helping customers meet these challenges with speed, technical expertise, and an unwavering commitment to delivering outstanding service.

Founded in 1974, AGAPE has evolved into a trusted provider of die cutting, dieless cutting, and custom fabrication solutions. Operating from its 40,000-square-foot headquarters, the company maintains one of the industry’s most extensive collections of production equipment and non-metallic sheet and roll goods inventory. This combination of manufacturing capability and material availability allows AGAPE to deliver rapid turnaround times—often shipping critical parts the very same day they are requested. Yet, according to Craig Ray, President of AGAPE, the company’s true differentiator extends beyond equipment or inventory. “Our commitment to excellent service has always been the hallmark of AGAPE,” says Ray. “We all pretty much purchase materials from the same sources and often produce parts on similar equipment. What distinguishes us is the customer service experience and the effort every member of our team makes to fulfill our customers’ needs.”

That customer-first philosophy has become especially important in today’s manufacturing landscape, where supply chain instability and material shortages can significantly impact production schedules. Many raw materials used in gasketing and sealing applications depend on overseas sourcing or limited availability, creating extended lead times that manufacturers often cannot afford. AGAPE addresses this challenge through strategic inventory management and warehousing capabilities. By stocking large quantities of roll and sheet goods, the company eliminates delays that would otherwise postpone production. For customers requiring specialized or exotic materials on a recurring basis, AGAPE also develops custom stocking programs that ensure materials remain readily available when needed. “Many of our customers operate in industries where downtime is simply not an option,” Ray explains. “By maintaining inventory and building stocking programs around their operations, we help eliminate uncertainty and keep their production moving.”

AGAPE’s CAD-controlled dieless cutting systems allow modifications to layouts, dimensions, cutouts, and hole placements with minimal setup time. Its oscillating knife cutters can fabricate non-metallic materials up to three-quarters of an inch thick, while its 50,000 PSI waterjet cutter is capable of producing parts as large as five by ten feet and up to four inches thick in a single piece. These capabilities not only improve production efficiency but also reduce costs for customers by eliminating the need for expensive tooling during development phases. Customers can rapidly test different materials and configurations before transitioning to full-scale production. The company’s approach to customization is highly collaborative. By the time most customers contact AGAPE, they typically have a general direction in mind regarding materials or application requirements. AGAPE’s role is to refine those selections, helping customers identify the ideal material, thickness, and design for the application while balancing cost, availability, and manufacturability. “Good communication is essential,” Ray notes. “Our customers need to be open about their project requirements, and we need to be honest about what is realistically achievable. That collaboration often leads to better, more cost-effective solutions.”

This consultative approach has enabled AGAPE to consistently respond to urgent and mission-critical situations. In many cases, the company receives emergency requests in the morning, designs and manufactures parts within hours, and ships them directly to customers the same day. For industries such as power generation and large-scale manufacturing, where downtime can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars daily, this responsiveness can have a significant operational impact. “It’s not unusual for us to receive a request in the morning and have parts delivered to an airport for same-day transport,” Ray says. “That level of urgency is part of what we do every week.”

AGAPE also plays an important educational role for customers, particularly when it comes to understanding the characteristics and tolerances of elastomeric materials. One common misconception, according to Ray, is applying metal-based tolerances to flexible sealing materials, which can create unrealistic expectations during design and manufacturing. By working closely with customers early in the process, AGAPE helps align design intent with material realities, preventing unnecessary costs and delays.

Looking ahead, AGAPE remains focused on expanding both its capabilities and industry reach. Continued investments in advanced equipment, technical expertise, and process efficiency are central to its long-term strategy. After more than 50 years in business, Akron Gasket and Packing Enterprises continues to demonstrate that success in manufacturing is not defined solely by machinery or materials, but by reliability, responsiveness, and relationships. Today, the company is actively pursuing opportunities in new industries while strengthening its ability to support existing customers with faster and more effective solutions. “Our service and commitment to our customers will only continue to grow and deepen as our team expands,” Ray concludes.
