New Greenwood facility will combine robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing to support Amazon’s fulfillment network
Greenwood, Indiana, 29 September 2026 – Amazon is expanding its advanced manufacturing operations with a planned investment of more than $100 million in Greenwood, Indiana. The new 585,000-square-foot facility is expected to begin operations by 2028 and create 300 manufacturing and engineering positions.
The facility will produce equipment and products that support Amazon’s fulfillment and robotics network across North America. Instead of relying only on traditional manufacturing methods, the site will bring several modern technologies together under one roof. These will include advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating, and assembly. Artificial intelligence and Amazon Web Services technology will also support smart manufacturing activities at the facility.
The new operation reflects how manufacturing is changing as companies adopt connected machines, automation, and data-driven production systems. By combining robotics with digital technologies, manufacturers can improve how products are designed, assembled, inspected, and prepared for use across large industrial networks.
A range of skilled positions will be created at the Greenwood facility. These include computer numerical control operators, welders, powder coating technicians, assemblers, manufacturing engineers, controls engineers, quality assurance specialists, and program managers. Amazon expects the jobs to have average salaries of nearly $100,000 annually.
The Indiana facility will add to Amazon’s growing manufacturing footprint in the United States. The company already operates robotics manufacturing facilities in Massachusetts and has produced more than one million robots in the country. According to Amazon, its robots are now used across more than 300 facilities worldwide and assist with 75 percent of customer orders.
Greenwood was selected in part because of its established manufacturing workforce and transportation infrastructure. Amazon has operated in Indiana since 2008 and says it has invested more than $40 billion in the state while creating more than 27,000 jobs.
For the manufacturing sector, the project highlights the growing connection between industrial production and technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cloud computing, and automated equipment. Modern facilities increasingly need workers who can operate, maintain, program, and improve these systems alongside conventional manufacturing processes.
As Amazon prepares the Greenwood facility for its expected 2028 launch, the project offers another example of how advanced manufacturing is becoming an important part of large-scale supply chain operations. The combination of skilled workers and smart manufacturing technology is set to shape how equipment supporting fulfillment networks is produced in the years ahead.
